Arnaud Mery is a Montreal-based photographer, researcher, and doctoral candidate. A graduate of the Sorbonne (Paris-1), where he earned his Master's Degree in the Practice and Aesthetics of Cinema, Arnaud initially worked in film production, as well as a cameraman and an editor. During this period, he also cultivated a passion for analog photography, with a keen interest in portraiture and street scenes. The Covid-19 pandemic marked a pivotal return to academia, leading him to pursue a PhD in Communication Studies at Université de Montréal. His current research is an art-as-research approach focusing on how generative AIs, and specifically text-image models, constrain our productive faculties and reconfigure our understanding of agency in the context of visual artworks.
Arnaud Mery est un photographe, chercheur et doctorant basé à Montréal. Diplômé de la Sorbonne (Paris-1), où il a obtenu une maîtrise en pratique et esthétique du cinéma, Arnaud a d'abord travaillé dans la production cinématographique, ainsi qu'en tant que caméraman et monteur. Durant cette période, il se passionne également pour la photographie argentique, avec un intérêt marqué pour le portrait et les scènes de rue. La pandémie de Covid-19 a marqué un retour au monde académique, l'amenant à poursuivre un doctorat en communication à l'Université de Montréal. Sa recherche actuelle est une approche de recherche-création qui se concentre sur la façon dont les IA génératives, et plus particulièrement les modèles texte-image, contraignent nos facultés productives et reconfigurent notre compréhension de l'agentivité dans le contexte des œuvres d'art visuelles.
